May 24, 2019 – North York Campus
As part of Cambrian at Hanson’s “Bring Education to Life” initiative, over 40 tourism program students from the North York Campus organized a Life Skills class showcase to present and promote their travel agency and products.
Hanson Canada President and CEO, Shouyi Ma, welcomed special guests, Mr. Vincent Ke, Provincial MPP, and Sarah Fischer, CPC Candidate, of Don Valley North with an introduction to the school and a campus tour.
Student teams then kicked off the event with their in-booth presentations with student representatives from the North York campus introducing their Country where they were offering different packages to tourists who are traveling to the destination and explaining why those locations are the best. These packages included accommodations, transportation, attractions and meals in hopes of being voted the best Country to visit.
Following the awards presentation to the winning teams, MPP Ke gave students a presentation about what it was like for himself being an international student in Germany and everything he has experienced in his life starting out as a student which lead him to this point on becoming the MPP for Ontario.
North York student representatives Amrit Kaur and Xiaoyong Chen also shared their personal journey and experience in Canada and closed the event with an informative Q&A session with MPP Ke and CPC Candidate Fischer.
Cambrian at Hanson’s tourism program provides students with important skills required to work within the tourism industry. The curriculum follows industry requirements by offering courses in world destinations, selling and customer service, transportation, communication, product knowledge, tour development and management, tourism law, business math, and event management. The students will learn to research, solve problems, be team players, exhibit professionalism and adapt to an ever-changing industry.
The students receive training in both major airline reservation systems: APOLLO BY GEMINI (GALILEO) and SABRE and a seven-week-long field placement for hands-on experience.
